About Me
You have gotten this far, so you must be interested!
My name is Steve Blanchet. I was born in Plymouth, UK, and I am English. I completed all of my education in the UK.
When I left school, I knew the regular nine-to-five was not for me. I hunted around for freedom and a job to do with no boss. This was the early 80s in the UK, and the new thing on the block for any budding entrepreneur was selling double glazing. This was a tough job walking around housing estates, knocking on doors, and asking for an appointment to sell my windows. It was my first foray into marketing and selling. I knew I was upsetting someone when I banged on that front door. Either a mother getting her kids ready for bed or the father watching TV, whatever it was, it was an inconvenience, and I was causing it. I learned to be fast, smile, and get at least something in before the door slammed shut. It taught me the marketing basics: You must be ready and willing to go the extra mile.
I moved on from double glazing to other selling jobs until I was in my mid-twenties. Then, after a rather long trip across Southeast Asia with a rucksack on my back, I started my first business.
I used my love of the English Language to open a TEFL School in the center of London. We started with one room; this was before the internet, so everything was typed and sent via post. I handed out leaflets in Piccadilly Circus between lessons and then designed posters for the underground stations in the evenings. It took a while, but we slowly built the school into two buildings with over twenty classrooms. During this time, computers and the internet arrived. I built my first website in 1992 with HTML and a book on design and marketing with the new buzzword search engine optimization. I built the school up over the next few years, working with foreign agents to get students and create marketing and advertising for the school.
Then wanderlust hit again, and at the turn of the century, I set my sights on Africa. I sold my shares in the language school and headed to Mombasa. Kenya is a wonderful place full of adventure and opportunities. I have worked in many industries since I arrived and have always been involved in marketing, content writing, and copywriting.
The strange thing about copywriting is that we do it all day, every day. When we talk to our wives or kids, we are marketing ourselves for something we want to get or give. We do it when we write an email or a text, as we always want something out of the situation, whether it’s information about our family or a deal on a new house.
Copywriting and content creation tells a story. The fast-paced hype, sales funnels, AI, and statistics from Facebook are all well and good. However, the human element, where empathy plays the most significant role, cannot be overlooked. Empathy is at the heart of all content writing and copywriting. I bring a wealth of experience with diverse cultures, languages, and businesses. With me by your side, we can collaboratively build your company to ensure it is SEO-friendly and targets the right audience. Whether your target audience includes couples seeking the perfect safari or your business aims to expand into international markets, I can craft your story and share it with the right people. I envision how your business ethos can be amplified through research and empathy, ethically guiding clients to your door.
I write because I enjoy writing. My author website, stevebrakerbooks.com, showcases my books and passion for writing about East African history and culture.
I love marketing, especially content creation combined with copywriting, as I am in a position to introduce your company to the right people.
